As our eightieth year winds to a close, I find myself reflecting on the long heritage and value of our company. Our Core Ideology and Vision and Mission truly define
our uniqueness and good reputation. In the end, that is really what's important.
After much thought, I want to share what makes you and this company special:
- We take the high road in making moral and ethical decisions,
and we have the courage to do the right thing.
- We give people the benefit of the doubt.
- We never lose spirit.
- We inspire those around us to take the high road.
Needless to say, we are not successful 100% of the time, but we know that when
we are positive, we get positive in return; and when we give respect, we get respect
in return.
I soar (glide) from time to time. Over the years, I learned various techniques
on how to be successful. I look for the rising air (thermals) because they lift me
up and keep me aloft; but, when I get caught in a down draft, I begin to fall. This
is the way it is with a company and the people who surround it — positive thinking
is uplifting and moves us upwards. Negative thinking will cause us to fall and take
us away from the higher level.
As we say goodbye to our 80th anniversary, let's look ahead and soar to new heights.
— Graham Bennett

Whether you were watching live from the stands in Indianapolis or from your favorite easy chair in front of the TV,
seeing the Quality Mart logo at the Brickyard 400 had to be a thrill!
For the first time, the Quality Mart logo was featured on the back of the Richard ChildressIKevin Harvick #29 car.
Having a long heritage with Shell Oil Company allowed us the opportunity to have the Quality Mart name and logo
displayed on the car for the race.
The QM logo must have given Kevin the extra horsepower he needed to place fifth - his best finish of the year. For
those of us who represented Quality Mart, what a great experience to visit the track at Indianapolis and be a part of all
the festivities that surround race day.
Let's hope Richard Childress Racing and Shell want us back for a repeat performance.

The employees of Reliable Tank Line/Spartanburg,
SC terminal moved into their new office/terminal
building in July 2009. They moved from a leased
800-square-foot building into a new 3,200-square-foot
facility.
About the same time, the employees of Reliable
Tank Line/Selma, NC moved from a leased
500-square-foot space to their new 3,200-square- foot terminal.
Although Reliable has been operating out of
these areas for many years, these new facilities
give Reliable a new beginning and a much greater
business presence. Other than the obvious benefit of
added working space, one of the most
valuable benefits of the new facilities is the ability
to directly purchase fuel for our fleet rather than
buying from outside suppliers.

Thank you ... and congratulations to all of you for your dedication
and continued commitment towards the "Quality Operational
Excellence Initiative." We have always prided ourselves on doing
more with less, thus giving us an operational advantage against
our competitors. These challenging times compel us to dig deeper.
Our Core Ideology speaks of our being "financially responsible"
and we state in our Vision and Mission that we will "grow through operational excellence."
We have attacked this issue with great focus and thoroughness. Special task forces have been working hard to investigate and
set forth a detailed and aggressive plan to "be better today than
yesterday." We took a two-prong approach. First, we peeled back the
onion in every division and every department and reviewed all
potential cost efficiencies — including postage, copying, duplication
of reports, hours, and cost of products and services. Almost every
team member was part of this effort, and the positive action taken to create cost savings has been amazing. Cost cutting is never
pleasant but the positive spirit from all of you has allowed us to go places most of our competitors cannot.
The second prong — we reviewed our entire accounting and back
of the house systems. We even solicited the help of an outside firm
to make sure we were going in the right direction. We discovered
that it is time to upgrade our systems and take advantage of the
technology, which is a must for our future companies if we are
to remain competitive; i.e., machine to machine communication,
scanning of product in the retail stores, and better systems to track
our transportation of product. The systems upgrade will require a
fair commitment of money and talent; however, I am confident we
have done our homework and are heading in the right direction.
Now our real work begins ... to implement our plan. I ask each
of you for your support towards the changes ahead. Remember,
we are the company bound together by our profit sharing, so be
diligent in suggesting anything that will be more efficient and
will offer greater "operational excellence."
